Team Member Job Description

Are you a detail-oriented, self-starter who wants to work outdoors? Do you get frustrated with monotonous, dead-end jobs and co-workers who spend more time standing around than getting things done? Do you want to be part of a team who enjoys working hard but also knows how to have fun?

If you found yourself shouting “yes!” to the questions above, a fulfilling outdoor career with Superior Groundcover is for you.

We are in search of a few hard-working team members with a great attitude and willingness to learn. You will help us neatly and efficiently place materials like bark, crushed stone, mulch and sand (just to name a few) in their desired locations. All team members are cross trained across all of our departments so you will learn to operate both blower trucks and slinger trucks.

Whether you are helping to stabilize a property or transform it into a beautiful environment, your main goal is to exceed our clients’ expectations with exceptional workmanship and professionalism.

As part of your job, you will:

  • Operate advanced machinery
  • Manually direct materials to their desired location
  • Be outdoors for the majority of your workday
  • Participate in physical demanding work
  • Work quickly and efficiently
  • Pay close attention to details
  • Own any errors you make and fix them
  • Strive to exceed client expectations
  • Work with a new team member each day
  • Become a valued member of a collaborative team

That sounds like a lot (and it is), but when you work at Superior Groundcover, we’ve got your back. It's kind of like being back on your high school sports team. When we get to a job site, our team bursts into action, with everyone taking their positions and giving their best to get the job done.

If you need help, the team will always be there to bail you out—but we will also be there to send you embarrassing photos on your birthday and cream you during the annual company dodgeball game. So, if you’re going to apply, bring your A-game…and your dodgeball skills.

The people who love this job and do well in this position are:

Hard-Working Team Players: We’ve all been on teams where one guy does all the work and everyone takes home the pay. That doesn’t fly at Superior. We don’t hire slackers. At Superior Groundcover, we expect everyone to pitch in and give their best. And by everyone, I mean everyone—even the owner will be out in the field with you, getting things done.

Detail-Oriented: The details are what takes a job from “good enough” to “dang, that looks good!”. Paying attention to the little things has earned us a reputation for exceptional workmanship. We owe it to ourselves and our clients to maintain that reputation and deliver exceptional work every time.

Outdoor Enthusiasts With A Great Attitude: We need you to bring the same sense of adventure and “we’ll figure it out” attitude that you bring to your camping trips to work with you each day. Our team members are always willing to jump into any task with a smile. They proactively look for ways to exceed customer expectations and improve their craft. This dynamic mix of grit, tenacity and respect are exactly why we have low employee turnover and high client satisfaction.

Education, Skills & Experience:

  • NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. If you are willing to work hard, we are willing to teach you everything you need to know to succeed.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • A valid driver's license with a good driving record and dependable transportation is required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, bend, stretch and lift is required.
  • Ability to complete physically demanding work is required.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions is required.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug test is required.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions is required.
  • Ability to read, write, and do basic mathematical calculations is preferred.
  • A Commercial Driver's License Class A or B is a plus.

Who is Superior Groundcover:

Superior Groundcover relies on a hard-working team and a large fleet of specialized machinery to do the heavy lifting of material placement with speed and accuracy so that landscape and excavation companies can keep their projects on track and profitable.

  • We have the largest fleet of blower trucks in the country.
  • We’ve been growing steadily since we opened in 2000.
  • We are known for unmatched customer service and high-quality workmanship.

What’s important to us:

Collaboration: Sure, everybody’s got a job title but they aren’t that big of a deal around here. If something needs doing, everyone is willing to jump in and do it. Each team member is cross-trained in all of our departments so that we can help out wherever needed. We switch up our teams every day because no one wants to deal with cliques or the “my team is better than yours” mentality. At Superior, we are all equal members of one big team.

Mutual Respect: We take really good care of our employees as a way to show respect and appreciation for their time, hard work and dedication. In return, we expect our team members to show one another, and our clients, the highest possible level of respect and professionalism.

Innovation: Superior Groundcover team members don’t settle for the status quo. They are constantly looking for new and better ways to use our machines to make material placement jobs more efficient. We have the largest fleet of blower trucks in the country because we are always pushing ourselves to grow: to do better, work smarter, and try new things.

Compensation:

Team member pay starts at $19–23 per hour, depending on experience. A more detailed description will be provided if you are called for an interview.

Benefits:

At Superior Groundcover, we don’t want seasonal employees. We want to help you build a fulfilling career as a valued member of a high-performing team.

We don’t just say that, we prove it with our competitive benefits package for full-time team members. You’ll get:

  • Winters off with the possibility of year-round, guaranteed pay*—no unemployment or snow plowing required (*for CDL holders)
  • The opportunity to get your CDL, paid by the company
  • On-the-job training and cross-trained in all departments
  • Automatic 2 weeks vacation time, paid holidays, 1 additional vacation day per 5 years
  • Health and dental insurance
  • 401K with up to 4% match
  • Proactive, yearly raises
  • Monthly safety incentive
  • All required attire is provided (except for shorts or pants)
  • A $100 voucher for boots
  • Free beverages in the shop
  • Healthy, collaborative company culture

We get it:  you’re not an “in the office, behind a desk” kind of person. Neither are we. But we also believe you shouldn’t have to sacrifice steady pay, opportunities for growth, and forming part of an amazing team just because corporate life isn’t for you.

Like one of our team members, Blake, said, “It's hard to find a good job with opportunities for promotion that doesn't require a college degree. I felt stuck in dead-end, boring jobs. At Superior, there are endless opportunities for people willing to work hard and meet high standards.”

Come find the opportunities for growth you’ve been looking for at Superior Groundcover.

3 Steps to A Fulfilling Outdoor Career:

  1. Apply online: Answer a few basic questions about yourself and the type of work you are looking for.
  2. Come in for a face-to-face interview: You will meet with the location manager for an in-person interview.
  3. Say “Yes!” to an offer: If we decide you’re a good fit for the Superior team, we will make you an offer. (We might even let you make us an offer.)

Superior Groundcover is an equal opportunity employer and follows all federal and state hiring regulations.
